Experienced, super-friendly tutor with 11 years teaching experience of both primary and high school students.
One of my sample lessons is above so you can see my tutoring style :)
I bring a genuine passion and enthusiasm for the lessons, coupled with a relatable, fun approach (and plenty of banter!) to inspire even very, VERY reluctant learners.
What makes me unique?
Skipped lessons and last-minute cancellations not charged (upon request)
Lessons can be 100% English, or 100% maths, or a combination of both, depending on the child's needs with upcoming assessments etc. Most other tutors (especially at high school level) will only do one subject
The comments from parents about their child 'genuinely enjoying' the lessons. This happens a lot. Try it and see! :)
Proven track record:
Retention rate for families is about 90% from term to term
Most of my families have been with me for at least two years, and some for over four years!
Amazing feedback from parents
Prices:
$50 for 30mins
$75 for 45mins
$100 for 60mins
any other duration is possible too. Most of my students are 45mins currently.
Testimonials:
Here is a sample of some of the amazing (and unsolicited!) feedback I have received from parents:
Hiya Andrew,
I just wanted to flick you a quick email after our fast chat last night to let you know that I am super-happy with Zach's weekly tutoring sessions with you!
You’re doing an awesome job in building fantastic rapport with him!
Zach is quite often a man of very few words and it definitely takes him time to come out of his shell fully, and he has also previously had a massive aversion to communicating over Zoom (or the phone even for that matter!)
However, Zach is genuinely enjoying his tuition time with you and approaches each week with enthusiasm!
The week that you had assigned him a maths puzzle to solve, he actually continued on that puzzle and then continued to be in the 'math zone' until bedtime!
And since working with you on creative writing he has been enthusiastic and has enjoyed creative writing tasks at school and is sharing with me almost daily the stories and funny poems he has written.
Zach and I are both super-happy that we found you and thanks so much!
...
Above all, however, I am so happy to see Zach overcoming creative and academic blocks and enjoying his time with you!
Have a great week Andrew,
Thanks again,
Sharon
A while ago I was asked to provide my top tips for maths and English success... so here we go...! 😊
Andrew's Top Tips for Maths:
1. Memorising formulas is not a substitute for deep mathematical understanding. Always look to grasp the reasoning behind the rules. This will save time and effort in the long run.
2. Take small steps. Moving onto difficult problems too quickly can leave gaps in foundational understanding.
3. Have fun! Mathematics is an intricate, accurate and beautiful description of the world around us. I look to not just help kids learn, but to actually enjoy the process.
Andrew's Top Tips for English:
1. Develop a passion for reading. Being immersed in literature helps all areas of English: writing, grammar, spelling, reading... everything!
2. Avoid a mechanical, overly-predictable style of writing. Writers are meant be artists! I encourage my students to write with flair, passion and depth. Slow, wordy sentences are not well received by markers.
3. Finally, develop confidence. An English student who believes their voice matters – that they have something worthwhile and important to add – creates a convincing and engaging tone. It's irresistible and beautiful for others to witness.
